Regular Language Arts
Required Reading Log and Reading Genres
6th grade students are required to complete 5 reading genres this year. Pre-AP will complete 7. Novels are self-selected, but must be at least a sixth grade reading level. Everyone must read a classic. Students log their daily reading on a 9 week reading log document. Students are expected to read for 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Writing Contests/Extra Credit
Contest flyers
Students have information in their blue Language Arts binder (under the Writing tab) about an essay and poetry contest hosted by Creative Communication.I do not have an electronic flyer for this one.

Pre-AP classes are required to attempt publication(enter a writing contest)at least once this year. Second attempts are worth a 100 on a daily grade/homework grade or extra credit.

Dear Parents,

We will soon finish our study and annotation for literary elements of Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls (Pre-AP) and A Dog’s Life by Ann Martin (Regular LA). -Absent students should check the website calendar for the lessons, assignments and homework that they missed.

-Students should come in at 8 am on the day they return to school so I can teach them the lesson they missed. Tutoring or help with make-up work can be arranged after school as needed.
